(La,Sr,Ca)CuO is an attractive material in connection with high- superconductivity because SrCaCuO becomes a superconductor under high pressure without the CuO planes. We present RIXS at the Cu -edge of (La,Sr,Ca)CuO focusing on the momentum dependence of interband excitation across the Mott gap and the intraband excitation below the gap as a function of hole concentration. The experimental results are consistent with the theoretical predictions.

I will present resonant inelastic X-ray scattering measurements of electric excitations in YVO with the incident energy of the K edge of vanadium at room temperature. We observed excitations corresponding to a Mott gap. We also performed the measurements of polarization dependence of the excitations. Remarkable change was observed on the Mott excitations about the measurements above the Tc of the orbital order.

In order to obtain detailed insights into the physicochemical mechanism of DNA damage induction by oxygen and nitrogen K-shell photoexcitation, short-lived radicals induced in DNA-bases, adenine and guanine, were measured by applying an electroparamagnetic resonance (EPR) spectrometer at the SPring-8 soft X-ray beamline, BL23SU. The samples were prepared as an evaporated thin film in a vacuum chamber. Experimental evidence of the effect of water vapor on the yields of the base radicals will be discussed.

We present the total photoelectron yields from nucleotides in water solution in the region around nitrogen K-edge. The experiment is carried out at the BL-23SU, SPring-8, using the soft X-rays in the energy region of 400 eV, so called "water window" region or just above. The liquid thin water jet (20m) containing nucleotide is intersected by a focused synchrotron-radiation beam, 100(v)100(h)m in a vacuum chamber. The photoelectrons ejected from the jet are collected by a channel electron multiplier. We show the first evidence of the spectrum of total photoelectron yields of DNA related compound, deoxy-5'-guanosine mono-phosphoric acid (dGMP), in solution. The spectrum shares some characteristic features with that for solid dGMP. Nitrogen atoms only exist in the guanine site, so that the spectral similarities can be explained by the hydrophobic property of the base site. The spectra for the other nucleotides will be also reported.

The metastable molecularly adsorption state as a precursor state in O/Si(111) at room temeprature is normally observed by many surface analysis method, such as photoelectron spectroscopy. It is known that the adsorption dynamics is changed from trapping-mediated adsorption to direct one at around 0.06eV by means of molecular beam experiment. However, there is no unified adsorption model for those adsorbates. We investigated the incident energy dependence of the metastable moleculary adsorbate by using synchrotron radiation real-time photoelectron spectroscopy. All experiments were performed at SUREAC2000 in SPring-8. The translational kinetic energy was controlled by supersonic molecular beam method up to 2.3eV and real-time photoelectron spectra in 10eV scanning range were measured with the accumulation time of 8s and 22s for O1s and Si2p under molecular beam irradiation. The peak of metastable adsorbate was clearly observed at 0.06eV condition. The peak decreased with incident energy and remained over 0.06eV where the direct adsorption process is dominant. This result suggest that the adsorption pathways are competitive between the trapping-mediated adsorption process via metastable molecularly state and the direct dissociative adsorption one.
